Wärtsilä and WinGD have signed a new long-term Service Framework Agreement aimed at ensuring continued authorised support for the global fleet of WinGD, Wärtsilä and Sulzer-branded two-stroke engines.

The agreement renews a service collaboration between the companies that has been in place since 2015. Under the framework, Wärtsilä will continue to act as an authorised global service provider for the relevant two-stroke engine installed base, alongside WinGD’s own Global Service by WinGD offering.

According to the companies, the arrangement is intended to give shipowners and operators flexibility in selecting service support while maintaining access to global technical expertise. The support scope includes genuine spare parts, field service, workshop capabilities, technical assistance and long-term lifecycle agreements.

Operational context

WinGD was formed in 2015 when Wärtsilä sold its two-stroke engine business to China State Shipbuilding Corporation. WinGD remains the original equipment manufacturer and licensor for two-stroke engines marketed under the WinGD, Wärtsilä and Sulzer brands.

Dominik Schneiter, CEO of WinGD, said the agreement complements the company’s own service organisation and is designed to provide uninterrupted worldwide support across different engine generations. He said the arrangement combines the capabilities of both companies to offer a flexible service solution to WinGD’s customer base.

Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä Marine and Executive Vice President at Wärtsilä Corporation, said the framework confirms the continuation of a long-standing service relationship supporting WinGD’s installed base. He added that owners and operators would retain access to Wärtsilä’s global service network, technical expertise and lifecycle support for their two-stroke engines.

The companies said the agreement is intended to support engine availability and maintenance planning over the operating life of the equipment. It also addresses shipowners’ need to prepare fleets for future fuels, developing technologies and decarbonisation requirements.

The renewed framework provides continuity for operators of engines carrying the three brands, with both WinGD and Wärtsilä positioned to provide authorised lifecycle support globally.
