Navios Maritime Partners, led by Angeliki Frangou, has been linked to an order for four containership newbuilds at South Korea’s HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC), in a contract valued at about $500m.

HJSC said it had secured an order from an unidentified Oceania-based owner for four containerships under a KRW679bn contract. The agreement runs from September 21, 2026 to April 30, 2029. The yard did not disclose either the vessel capacity or propulsion arrangement.

Shipbuilding and market sources have identified Navios as the owner behind the contract. Based on the reported pricing, the vessels are understood to be of about 10,100 teu. The attribution has not been officially confirmed by either HJSC or Navios.

Operational context

If confirmed, the order would extend Navios Maritime Partners’ containership programme at the Busan-based builder and move the company into a larger vessel size segment at the yard. Navios has previously returned to HJSC for a series of 7,900 teu ships described as methanol-ready and fitted with scrubbers, followed by four 8,850 teu newbuildings associated with the same shipbuilder.

The first vessel in the 7,900 teu series, Navios Cyan, was delivered earlier in 2026. Navios’s latest official fleet update listed three additional vessels of that size and four 8,850 teu containerships scheduled for delivery through the first half of 2028.

HJSC has also developed a 10,100 teu containership design for its Yeongdo yard. Earlier in 2026, Bremen-based D. Oltmann Reederei was identified as the owner behind four ships of that type, ordered in two pairs for delivery between April and October 2028.

Navios has continued to add newbuilding capacity across several shipping segments. In an August filing, the company listed 29 newbuildings in its pipeline, comprising three capesize bulk carriers, seven containerships and 19 tankers. Contracted revenue was reported at about $4.4bn.

Should the latest HJSC order be formally confirmed as a Navios transaction, the four containerships would be additional to the newbuilding programme disclosed in that filing.
